Brexit Day

Brexit is the term used to describe the UK’s exit from the European Union. You can read the full official Brexit legislation on GOV.UK.

The day of Brexit was June 23, 2016, after a referendum, but it became effective on Feb 1, 2020. The United Kingdom is the only sovereign nation to leave the EU. Brexit fundamentally changed how customs declarations, import duties, and trade compliance are managed between the UK and EU.

Brexit transition period:

The “Brexit transition period,” also referred to as the “implementation period,” is the time duration agreed by the EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement. During and after this period, businesses needed to adapt to new UK customs and EU customs requirements. The Windsor Framework later addressed specific arrangements for Northern Ireland trade following Brexit.
