From 31 January 2025, the UK introduced a reduced ENS dataset for imports into Great Britain, simplifying compliance for carriers, freight forwarders, and logistics operators while still supporting Border Force risk assessment requirements.
Mandatory ENS Fields
Every Entry Summary Declaration must include 20 mandatory fields that support pre arrival safety and security screening. These typically include the consignor and consignee details, goods description, transport information, package count, gross weight, routing data, customs office of entry, and EORI details for the declarant. Missing mandatory data can result in ENS rejection, customs delays, or additional Border Force checks.
Conditional ENS Fields
Conditional ENS fields only apply in specific transport or shipment scenarios. These may include container numbers, seal numbers, dangerous goods codes, carrier information, or conveyance references depending on whether the goods move by sea, air, rail, RoRo, or road freight. Operators only need to complete these fields when the shipment structure or customs requirements make them relevant.
Optional ENS Fields
Optional ENS fields can be completed to provide additional shipment visibility but are not required for submission acceptance.
