Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS)

The Goods Vehicle Movement Service (GVMS) is the UK Government’s customs clearance platform at some ports. It is designed to facilitate and streamline the process of clearing UK customs declarations. You can read the official GVMS guidance on GOV.UK.

GVMS has a connection with CDS and CHIEF. It releases the goods immediately as soon as they reach the UK. Carriers can use iCustoms’ GVMS solution to manage goods movement records seamlessly.

GVMS connects all pre-lodged declarations in a shipment to a single Goods Movement Record (GMR), which is linked to the truck or trailer’s license plate. Each GMR number is valid for one crossing by a single vehicle and can only be used once. To show that all goods have been pre-declared, the haulier just needs to present the GMR code to the carrier at the border.
