Binding Tariff Information (BTI) is the written classification decisions issued by customs authorities in the EU that ensure the accuracy of your goods commodity code.
Generally, a BTI is valid for 3 years. Other than expiry, any change in customs legislation can also lead to non-compliance with BTI.
If a BTI is invalidated due to changes in legislation in the EU, the traders may be entitled to a grace period. If accepted, this enables traders to complete any legally binding agreements made using that BTI.
Benefits of BTI:
BTI is beneficial for the traders in the following ways:
Legal assurance about tariff classification decisions.
Uniformity in how the classification rules are applied across the EU.
